 Youth Training Program

This coming season Markham Thunder is continuing to offer programs for new or beginner athletes looking to learn, develop good foundation thru proper technical training, game plays, and build the passion for volleyball.

In addition we are offering new Select program for athletes with good fundamental skills to continue to train and develop their skills in team environament and game like drills to compete in local tournaments.

2026-2027: SELECT PROGRAM for 11-13 years old (NEW)

SELECT volleyball training program are for athletes (11-13 years old) with good foundation skills looking to strengthen their overall technique and skills training thru teamwork and game plays in preparation for school or future club/rep volleyball.

We are looking to form a girls and a boys’ Select team to train and compete in locally run tournaments for upcoming 2026/2027 season.  Train and practice like rep players by certified and experienced coaches. Does not particiapte or is not part of the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) and tournaments.  This program gears for athletes and parents looking for less vigorous and demanding OVA schedule and the high club fee and training costs associated with OVA rep team.

  • Training to focus on technical training, game drills, positioning, defensive & offensive coverage.
  • Combines focussed skill training, strategy, and game plays.
  • Season: October 2026 to May 2027.
  • Participate in local tournaments (January – May 2027).
  • One (1) boys team; up to 10 athletes.
  • One (1) girls team; up to 10 athletes.
  • Tryouts dates:
    • Monday, Sept. 28 & Monday, October 5, 2026.
    • Location: Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS, 90 Bur Oak Ave, Markham.
    • Time: 6:15 pm – 8:00 pm.
    • Offer is first come first serve.

  • Season Details: 
    • October 2026 to May 2027.
    • Monday: Practice/train 1 day a week, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
    • Season & Training Fee; $900 per athlete.
    • Team jerseys and tournaments (up to 4); $300-$500 per athlete.
    • Head Coach/Trainer: Terry Nghiem (Lv. 2 Certified) & Assistants.
    • Training/practice location:

      • Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

2026-2027: Beginner & Intermeidate Training PROGRAM for 10-13 years old.
  • Fundamental skills training for new and beginner athletes to acquire all basic skills (footwork, passing, setting, serving, hitting).
  • Intermediate training to strengthen fundamental skills and to focus on game drills, positioning, defensive & offensive coverage.
  • Lead Coach/Trainer: Terry Nghiem (Lv. 2 Certified) & Assistants.
  • Season: October 2026 to April 2027.
  • Accepting up to 14 athletes per session.
  • Sign up for both sessions; $740.
  • Session 1 (9 weeks): Beginners Session
    • Tryout Date: Thursday, October 1, 6:15 – 8:00 pm.
    • Thursday, October 1 to December 10, 2026.
    • Location: Cedarwood Public School, 399 Elson Street, Markham.
    • Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
    • Cost: $360
  • Session 2 (12 weeks): Intermediate Session
    • Tryout Date: Thursday, January 14, 6:15 – 8:00 pm.
    • Thursday, January 14, 2027 to April 22, 2027
    • Location: Cedarwood Public School, 399 Elson Street, Markham.
    • Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
    • Cost: $480
